Licence rules, ages and who can rent

Dubai lets visitors from a long list of countries drive on a valid home licence: all GCC states, the UK, Ireland, every EU member, Switzerland, Norway, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa, Turkey and several others. If your country is not on the list, you need an International Driving Permit issued in your home country before travel, carried together with your home licence. An IDP cannot be issued in Dubai.

Residents must use a UAE licence; a home licence stops being valid once a residence visa is issued.

Age: 21 for luxury cars, 25 for supercars, with at least one year, and for the fastest cars two or three years, on the licence. The licence must be the physical card; a photo on a phone is not accepted.

At delivery you show passport, visa or entry stamp, licence and a credit card in the driver's name for the deposit. Debit cards and cash deposits are accepted by few companies and usually at a higher amount.

Only the named drivers may drive. An additional driver can be added at delivery for a small fee if they meet the same rules.
